MANAPAD CLASSIC 2016 is owned by Manapad Surf Resort & is operated along with an expert committee comprising of leading adventure sports outfits Aqua outback, Covelong Surf Point, Quest Expeditions, Kiteboarding Federation of India and the Surfing Federation of India.
The first edition of the National level Adventure Water Sports event titled, “Manapad Classic – Sail & Surf Festival”, will be held between 12th to 14th February, 2016 at Manapad village, Tuticorin district. This is unique event that is being held for the first time India wherein five major Adventure Water Sports, namely Sailing, Surfing, Kite Boarding, Kayaking & Stand Up Paddle events are taking place at a competitive level at the same venue concurrently.

along with an expert committee comprising of leading adventure sports outfits Aqua outback,Covelong Surf Point, Quest Expeditions, Kiteboarding Federation of India and the Surfing Federation of India. “Tamil Nadu Tourism” is the title sponsor for this event, and this event is also cosponsored by a few other corporate establishments. The Tamil Nadu Tourism Commissioner and the Tuticorin District administration, under the aegis of the District Collector have extended full cooperation for this event and have deputed various departments to prepare the required infrastructure for this mega event. Through this event, the organizers and sponsors aim to develop water sports in Tamil Nadu and thereby help boost tourism in our state. It is indeed noteworthy to mention that an event of this magnitude in the Adventure Water sports discipline is being held for the first time in India. Amateur and Professional athletes from many parts of the country have confirmed their participation in this premier event. The participants for some of these events have already started arriving in Manapad to commence their practice sessions in various events in order to acclimatise themselves with the event location and the local wave & wind conditions. It was indeed an awesome sight to watch the athletes practicing Kite boarding and performing various adrenalin rushing stunts as part of their preparation. We could witness another group of athletes practicing for the Kayaking races and the Stand Up Paddle races in the beautiful Manapad Lagoon. Curious onlookers were flabbergasted as they witnessed world class adventure water sports being practiced in this quaint, but picturesque coastal hamlet. It was also a wondrous sight to watch an expert Kite boarding athlete perform defying stunts like high loops as he was gracefully speeding through the high seas on his large Kite board dressed in a “Santa Claus” attire. This according to him was a “Christmas Special” and indeed it brought cheer and excitement to the huge audience standing on the shores. Going by the preparations by the organizers, sponsors and all other stake holders, it seems like “Manapad Classic, 2016” is sure to be a block buster event that would set a new trend in the annals of Adventure Water Sports in India. One thing is for sure......Come January 8th, 2016, all roads would lead to Manapad for this exhilarating sporting event.
